Proud Mom moment

Jacob ran his first (and he says last) duathalon today! It was a 1 mile trail run, 5 mile mountain bike, and then another 1 mile trail run. We left the house at 5:30 (that's a.m folks!) and headed down to Fredricksburg, Va where the race was. Jacob won 3rd place in his age group (0-14) out of three people!! The other two boys were 14. He was also the youngest competitor they have ever had! He won tremendous respect from everyone there! Everyone was asking me what his name was and when he would come by they would all cheer him on by name! It made my heart swell! I thought for sure when he finished with the bike portion he was going to slip under the yellow tape and become a spectator rather than a competitor, but he didn't! He was a monster and was tearing up the trail!! He gave it 110% and finished strong!! Steve said that this was the hardest mountain bike trail that he himself has ever done, it was brutal! And Jacob did it!!! I wish he put that much effort into his chores!

First race packet ever!
Setting up in the transition area

A hiking we will go! He loves to hike with a walking stick! He makes sure that the stick hits the ground with every step he takes!

And a bug collecting we will go to! We found a big centipede.

Jacob waving to his adoring crowd

After the 1 mile run, taking off on the 5 mile bike

And he's off

And he's back

What an athlete!!! Drinking and running at the same time. Shaving time in the transition area by multitasking. He even pitched the bottle to me as he was running by.

Finishing strong! Look at the proud Daddy in the background!

Look out athletic world...here come the Browne Towne men!!

Wohoo! That is quite an accomplishment. Next time let me know, I know Noah would love to get in on something like that.

You put my Wii-addicted son to shame. How do I get him to do something like this?
